Mary L. Mahoney, 61, of Deerfield died on November 29, 2014 in the presence of family and friends after a brief illness. She was born in Brighton, MA on July 18, 1953, the daughter of Edgar and Florence (Terry) Gagne.
Mary was the long time Administrative Assistant at the Deerfield Community School. She truly loved her job and all the children and had a special place in her heart for those who were frequent visitors to the principal's office, her 'bad boys'.
Mary never met a lobster she didn't like, whether it was in a stew at the fair, in a pie at Johnsons, in a roll at Tuckaway or in a pot at home.
Mary was always the first on the dance floor, sometimes literally, and was quite the improvisational dancer. Mary liked to travel to exotic locations such as Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun and the Las Vegas strip. Slot machines feared her.
Mary had a fondness for the stage. She appeared in many productions of the Deerfield Fireman's Show and plays at DCS. Carrying on a tradition started by her father, she was more than happy to lead a crowd in a sing-along of Alouette.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Edward F; son and his wife, Edward C. and Amanda of Shreveport, LA; daughter and her husband, Katie and Danny Mear of East Kingston, NH; sisters and their husbands, Gerri and Ron Heald of Tewksbury, MA; Jeannie and Alan Morrison of Marshfield, MA; loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. She was 'Mimi' to her beloved Melkato Swanson of Newmarket, NH. She was predeceased by infant son, Brendan.
Funeral services are private. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 6 from 1PM to 4PM at the Deerfield Community School, 66 North Rd, Deerfield. This will be an informal, drop-in gathering for family and friends to come together to share their many 'Mary' memories and stories. A fitting salute to Mary would be to raise a highball in her name, upper dentures and swizzle stick optional.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the DCS Playground Fund, Deerfield Community School, 66 North Rd, Deerfield, NH 03037
