Mary D. McGilvray of East Concord, NH, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026, at Concord Hospital, following a long and courageous battle with leukemia.
Mary was born on April 7, 1943, in Bellows Falls, VT. She grew up in Walpole, NH, and graduated from Walpole High School in 1961. She went on to enroll in the Concord Hospital School of Nursing in Concord, NH. Upon completion of the diploma program, she became a registered nurse at the hospital, where she served for many years on the maternity ward. She later became a full-time instructor in the nursing program, where she discovered her passion for teaching. Mary went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from New England College. She later joined the Orr & Reno law firm as a medical paralegal, where she spent the remainder of her career.
Mary was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Church in Concord, NH for over 60 years, where she built a strong foundation of faith. She was also active in the East Concord Lamplighters Association and the Concord Quarterback Club. Mary was an ardent supporter of her sons and grandchildren, rarely missing their sporting events. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and sister, and she cherished a close-knit circle of lifelong friends.
Mary was predeceased by her husband of 43 years, John “Bud” McGilvray; her eldest son, Scott McGilvray; and her parents, Chester and Ruth Duprey of Walpole, NH.
She is survived by her son, Keith McGilvray, and his spouse, Ami, along with their children, Abby, Jake, and Kamden; her daughter-in-law, Patti (Downton) McGilvray, and her daughters, Meaghan and Molly; her loving friend and partner, Bob Pope; her brothers, Alan and Neil and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A service celebrating Mary’s life will be held at St. Paul’s Church, 21 Centre Street, Concord, NH. Details will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Scott McGilvray Children’s Fund, 9 South Spring Street, Concord, NH 03301.
