Mary (Yeargle) Morton of Whitefield, NH, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on December 12, 1951, in Littleton, NH, Mary was the daughter of Stanley and Jane (Pearce) Yeargle. She graduated from Littleton High School in 1969. Shortly after, she married her high school sweetheart, Walter Morton Jr. The couple settled in Whitefield, where they raised their two sons, Walter “Punky” Morton III and Shane Morton.
Mary cherished time with her family and friends. Their home was a frequent gathering place, filled with laughter, home-cooked meals, and the warmth of shared memories. She loved cooking and tending to her flower gardens.
Professionally, Mary served as a Cook Manager for White Mountains Regional School District SAU 36 for 37 years. Fondly known as “the lunch lady,” she left a lasting impression on generations of students. She retired in 2014. Mary was a proud member of the School Nutrition Association, Retired Educators Association, and the National Education Association. She was also an active member of the Eagles Club of Bethlehem and Elks Lodge #1831 in Littleton, where she co-chaired the Christmas Basket program for families in need for over 20 years.
Mary is survived by her son, Shane Morton and his fiancée, Sara Dunn, and step-granddaughter, Sadie Dunn, all of Whitefield, NH; her daughter-in-law, Debra Morton of Littleton, NH; her step-grandson, Jeff Lamontt and his wife of Twin Mountain, NH; and her great-grandsons, Connor and Colby Lamontt.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Walter Morton Jr.; her son, Walter “Punky” Morton III; her parents, Stanley and Jane Yeargle; her brothers, Warren, Kenneth, Bruce, and David Yeargle; and her nephew, Josh Yeargle.
Mary leaves behind many cherished family members, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. Her warmth, generosity, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Mary’s honor on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at the Littleton Elks Lodge #1831, located at 42 Main St US RTE 302, Bethlehem, NH,03574 beginning at 2:00 PM.
