Mary Jane Pobst Concord Age 85, died of cancer at Hospice House in Concord, NH on April 18, 2006. She was born in Georgetown, Ohio on November 4, 1920, the daughter of Walter and Nina Pobst. She earned a BA in Sociology at Antioch College, an MA in Education at Putney Graduate School of Education, and an MLS at Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute. A pioneer in library networking and automation, she worked at Washington State Library as Associate Director of Research and Planning. She had also worked at Columbia University Library as Director of Acquisitions. She was a peace and civil rights activist, pacifist, war tax resister, licensed pilot, world traveler, international volunteer, musician, author, avid reader, gardener, and high school basketball star. She is survived by her brother, John Pobst of Barre, MA. Four children, Judy Reed of Keene, NH, Mark Reed of Trondheim, Norway, Scott Reed of Sunderland, MA and Gail Prager of Mountain View, CA. Seven grandchildren also survive her. A memorial service will be held on Sunday May 21st at 2:00 PM at Havenwood, 33 Christian Ave., Concord, NH. Memorial donations may be made to the American Friends Service Committee, Peace Action, or Amnesty International.
