Mary E. (Callahan) Remijan, 78, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2026, after a long and courageous journey with genetic spinocerebellar ataxia.

Born on May 14, 1947, in Brockton, MA, Mary was the first daughter of Ruth I. (Buckley) and John Charles Callahan Sr. She was one of fifteen siblings in a large and lively family. In January of 1953, the Callahan family moved to Troy, NH, where Mary spent her formative years and built lifelong connections.

Mary attended Troy Elementary School and later graduated from Monadnock Regional High School in 1966. During her youth, she was an active and engaged member of her community—singing in the choir at Immaculate Conception Church in Troy, babysitting for local families, and working as a lifeguard at Sand Dam. These early experiences reflected her natural sense of responsibility, warmth, and care for others.

Following high school, Mary pursued her calling in healthcare and became a Licensed Practical Nurse in December of 1967. She carried that same compassion and dedication into her professional life, always putting others first.

Mary later married Walter Remijan Jr. in June of 1973 and eventually settled in Enfield, CT. They later divorced in 1999. Walter Remijan Jr. has since passed away. Though her life took many turns, she remained deeply connected to her roots in NH and to the people she loved.

She had a deep appreciation for travel and adventure, especially her trips with Denis Poirier and the “Troy Travelers.” Among her favorite places was her cherished timeshare in Saint Martin, where she found joy, relaxation, and sunshine.

Mary will be remembered for her strength, her independence, her enduring spirit, and her sense of humor. Even as her illnesses progressed, she demonstrated a quiet resilience that left a lasting impression on those who cared for her. She also cherished her long-standing friendships, especially with Kim Covaleski of Enfield, CT, and Anne Callahan of Troy, NH.

Mary is survived by her siblings Robert Callahan of Manchester, NH; Ann Southworth of Broad Brook, CT; Jean Austin of Cato, NY; Margaret Callahan of Loudon, NH; Ruth Sanders of Hockessin, DE; Rita Lane of West Swanzey, NH; Rose Belisle of Dunbarton, NH; Catherine Zaricki of Goffstown, NH; and Michael Callahan of Rye, NH, along with extended family and those who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, Ruth and John, she was predeceased by her siblings John C. Callahan, Jr., James E. Callahan, Gerald D. Callahan, and Thomas J. Callahan, all of Troy, NH, and Elizabeth Callahan of Loudon, NH.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 180 Loudon Road in Concord, NH. Following the service, a small bereavement gathering will be held in the church hall. Burial will take place at a later date in Keene, NH.

The family extends special thanks to Traci Schaunaman and the staff of Granite VNA for the compassionate care provided to Mary during her final years.

Assisting the family with arrangements is the Cremation Society of NH, Boscawen. To view Mary's Online Tribute, send condolences to the family, or for more information, visit www.csnh.com.
