Vakalis

St. Bernard’s Catholic Church
Starts at 11:00 am (Eastern time)
Mary Diana Vakalis (Moore) 94, passed away peacefully, accompanied by her daughter, Diana C. Vakalis, on May 19, 2026 at Maplewood Nursing Facility in Westmoreland, New Hampshire.
She was the wife of the late George Vakalis.
Born in Floral Park, New York, she was the first of seven children of Garrett and Dorothy (Pukas) Moore.
Mary was the loving mother of Malcolm G. Vakalis (Gail), Diana C. Vakalis and David J. Vakalis (Janet).
Loving Grandmother of Amy, Raymond, Julie, Erin, David, Michelle, Andrew, Michael, Jonathan and Rachel.
Great grandmother of Jaden, Aaliyah, Alexis, Liam, Leslie, Isabel, Abraham, Sophia, Noah, Cecelia, Norah and Lucy.
She is survived by her youngest sister, Dorothy (Moore) Lavault.
Whether sitting at the piano teaching herself melodies by ear, singing with joy and devotion, or painting scenes inspired by the beauty she saw in the world, she lived a life overflowing with creativity-a true artist!
She also saw every individual’s inherent beauty and did not hesitate to endow effusive compliments .
A gifted storyteller with an incredible memory and curiosity for life, she could captivate anyone with her words, her stories and her deep understanding of countless subjects.
A published author, real estate broker and devoted woman of faith, she carried her beliefs not only in prayer, but in the kindness, grace and compassion she extended.
Her husband George was truly her partner in every sense of the word. Their bond was an inspiration to all who knew them. A love deeply rooted in faith and commitment. Although George passed before her, those left behind are comforted by the fact they are once again reunited. Hand in hand for all eternity.
Her greatest treasure was her family. The grandchildren fondly remember holidays around the piano taking turns with a microphone and speaker or watching old movies in the grand bedroom suite. The songs she sang, the lessons she shared, and the love she gave will continue to echo in the hearts of all who knew her.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated May 28, 2026 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Main St. Keene, New Hampshire, at 11:00am.
Internment at New Hampshire’s Veteran’s Cemetery will be held privately.
