Mary J. Wetherbee (McGrath), 76, devoted wife, mother and grandmother, of Amherst, NH, died peacefully Saturday September 6, 2014, at Catholic Medical Center with family by her side. She was born in Somerville, MA on July 10, 1938 daughter of the late Bernard and Margaret H. McGrath (Walsh)
Born and raised in Somerville, MA, Mary married her loving husband Neil Sr. of Quincy, MA, on July 13, 1964. They recently celebrated their 50th anniversary. The couple moved to Arlington, MA to raise their only son Neil (not Jr.). They resided in Arlington for nearly 30 years, moved to Nashua, NH for a brief time before deciding to enjoy their retirement years on 33 Boston Post Rd. in Amherst, NH
Mary went to Catholic school at The Sisters of Notre Dame Academy in Tyngsboro and West Roxbury. She went to work at age 18 for what was then First National Bank of Boston in 1956. She spent her entire career with the bank and its successors, and retired as officer in the bank's Shareholder Services Division in 1996. Mary had a number of interests but the joy of her life was the time she spent with her two grandsons, Dylan and Keith, and family dog Zack.
She is predeceased by her both her parents and her brother James B. McGrath, a WWll Navy Veteran.
She will be forever loved and missed by her husband of 50 wonderful years, Neil Sr. of Amherst, NH, her loving son Neil and his wife Wendy of Derry, NH, the joys of her life, grandsons Keith of Salem, NH and Dylan of Derry, NH as well has her extended family, daughter-out-law Cheryl Wetherbee and her life partner Prudy Cawley.
Mary will be cremated and have some of her ashes scattered at Bailey Island, ME where she and her husband Neil spent many happy vacations together. In the upcoming year, friends and family will join together in a celebration of her life and the joy that she brought to everyone. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Heart Association or a local blood drive.
