MaryEllen (Slowey) Nicole

After a period of declining health, MaryEllen (Ellie) Slowey Nicole died peacefully on September 23rd in Swanzey, NH at the age of 85.

She was born on December 9, 1938, and was the much- loved only child of the late James E. Slowey and Mary C. (McCarthy) Slowey. Growing up in Manchester NH she attended local schools and was a 1956 graduate of Central High School.

On September 27. 1958, she and John (Nic) Nicole of Fort Wayne, Indiana were married while he was in service in the Air Force. Ellie loved her time as a military wife and counted those days as some of her happiest, being able to travel and raise their children together. After retirement, the family moved back to Manchester to be closer to family. In February 1996 Nic passed after 38 years of marriage.

In 2001, Ellie moved to Tarpon Springs Florida so she could be in the sun year-round. She and Bob Cashin enjoyed their time there making new friends and forging many wonderful memories. After Bob’s passing, she returned to NH, residing in Swanzey,

She was immensely proud of her family and the great friends she made throughout her life.

Ellie was an amazing knitter and took so much joy in the countless sweaters, mittens, socks, and baby sweaters she lovingly created for her family, friends and charitable organizations. She was truly gifted.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, John Nicole in 1996, Bob Cashin in 2013 and her beloved son, Matthew Nicole in 2023.

She is survived by her children, Renee (David) Harlow of Swanzey, NH; Kathleen Nicole of Hooksett NH; Mark (Susan) Nicole of Melbourne Beach Florida; and daughter -in-law, Karen Nicole, Lisbon Maine.

Grandchildren, Andrea (Scott) Greene, Dustin (Lindsay) Kenitz, Steven Montplaisir, Nicolas Dupre, Dillon Nicole, Travis Lavway and Shane (Maili) Lavway. In addition, she leaves her two “bonus” granddaughters, Shaina (Matthew) Persell, and Alyssa (David) Weand. Great Grandchildren, Grace, Drew, Avery, Mia, Colby, Brighton, Hector, Brooklyn, Ellington, Devin, and Louis.

Ellie was a true force of nature and was much loved by all she knew. She was a true matriarch of our family and will be missed more than we can say. When you think of Ellie, we ask that you raise a glass (preferably Johnny Walker Red) and toast our amazing mother, grandmother, and friend.

You did good Mom!

The family would like to thank the nurses at Home, Health and Hospice for their care and support.
