Maurice Haynes Benson, Jr. passed away on November 10, 2020 at the age of 80 following a lengthy illness. He was born in Hanover, NH on November 5, 1942 to Daisy and Maurice Benson, Sr. He spent much of his youth, working his family farm and showing their prize cattle in local county and state fairs. Maurice graduated from Plymouth State College with a Bachelor's in Education and spent over 40 proud years teaching throughout New England. His happiest hours were those spent coaching â whether it was baseball, basketball, soccer or chess. His Lisbon High Baseball team won the Maine State Championship in 1979. When not coaching, you could find him at the race-track caring for and training his horses or on the golf course.
Maurice is survived by his five children, Mary-Lynne Rodriguez of Pembroke Pines, FL, Charles Benson and wife Deborah of Coral Springs, FL, Michelle McKenny and partner Marc Hamel of Rochester, NH, Brian Benson and wife Candice of Bedford, NH and Matthew Benson and partner Nicole VanRosendael of North Waterboro, Me.
He is also survived by his siblings Elizabeth Tilton, Manchester, NH, Patricia Battersby, Concord, NH, Barbara Davis, Westmoreland, NH, Arolyn Berube, Venice, Florida and Donald Benson, West Plains, MO and his many grandchildren, Eric McKenney, Ryan McKenney, Demitri Rodriguez, Kyle Benson, Ethan Benson, Taylor Benson, Connor Benson, Katerina Benson, Riley Benson and Tori Benson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife of 34 years Catherine Maria Pia Benson, and brothers William Benson and Robert Benson.
The family would like to thank the team at the Maplewood Nursing center for the loving care and devotion to Maurice and his family during this difficult time.
Due to current Covid restrictions, a celebration of Maurice's life will be held in 2021. In memory of Maurice the family would ask that donations be made to The Alzheimer's Association.
