Northwood, NH - Maxine Inga Paine-Fowler, 73. passed away peacefully at home on December 8, 2017.

Maxine was born January 2, 1944 in Framingham, MA. She was predeceased by her parents, Max H. Paine, Sr. and Inga Bixby Paine. Maxine is survived by her husband of 17 years, William Fowler, her daughters Gretchen Arnold of Durham, New Hampshire and Heidi Arnold of St. John, US Virgin Islands, step daughter Amy Arnold Upson and her husband Joe, children David and Ashley of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and step sons Rob Fowler and wife Jasmine, children Wylie, Juniper and Kale of Morrill, Maine, Mathew Fowler and wife Harmony, children Alexis and Isabella of Northwood, New Hampshire and Greg Arnold and his wife Sue of Medina, Ohio. She is also survived by her sister Jean Paine Meade and her husband Arthur, and her brothers Max H. Paine, Jr. and his wife Lorraine, and Thomas B. Paine, all of Morrisville, Vermont and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many loyal friends. She was especially close to her sisters in law Sharon Kendrick and Marcia Sherbourne and her spouse Ray. Her nephew Timar Sturdevent and his wife Kim and children Taylor and Kate of Eliot, Maine also held a special place in her heart.

Maxine graduated from Peoples Academy in Morrisville, Vermont, earned an associate nursing degree from Vermont College in Montpellier, Vermont and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts. Maxine worked as a nurse in Boston for several years until she married her husband Guy Arnold in 1968 and they moved to Westford, Massachusetts. In 1976 they moved to Deerfield, New Hampshire with their two daughters and she resumed her career in nursing at Strafford Medical Associates where she worked until she retired. With her girls at her side she participated at the local pony club, went to all their sporting events and spent summers sailing and camping. She married William in 1999 and moved to Northwood, New Hampshire. After retiring from nursing, Maxine became involved in local art shows, antiquing, her flower gardens and was able to further pursue her painting which had been a lifetime passion of hers. In her retirement years she enjoyed traveling with her husband William and spending winters in Leesburg, Florida. Maxine was dedicated to everything she pursued, her nursing career, her artistic endeavors, but what she will most be remembered for is her unconditional love of her family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 16th at 12:00 noon at the Deerfield Community Church in Deerfield, New Hampshire. A reception will follow immediately after the service. The internment will take place in the spring at Pleasant View Cemetery in Morrisville, Vermont. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cornerstone VNA and Hospice in Rochester, NH or American Cancer Society.
