On March 10, 2017, at the age of 31, Meghan W. Beaudoin (Horsley) passed peacefully in her childhood home, surrounded by loved ones, after bravely fighting a devastating illness.
She is survived by her mother, Lynn Horsley, and her sisters, Beth Horsley and Elle Leslie.
Meg was preceded in death by her father, Bill Horsley, her maternal grandparents, Elizabeth and Stanley Adamcyk and her paternal grandparents, Jean and Frank Horsley.
Meg was born Aug. 7, 1985, on a sunny afternoon in Boston, Mass. After enduring the morning traffic into Boston, Lynn and Bill Horsley brought this beautiful, blue-eyed baby into the world. She was welcomed home in a pretty pink dress by her older sister, Beth. Two years later, Meg and Beth greeted their little sister, Elle, into the family. The three grew to be the best of friends and shared many memories with close family friends, in a tightly knit neighborhood in Manchester.
Growing up, Meg enjoyed summers at the Cape with her family; especially fishing with her father on Vineyard Sound, lunch dates with her mother and beach trips with her sisters. Meg was a well-known member of the community, with a passion for playing basketball throughout her high school and college careers. She loved to spend time with friends, many of whom she remained close with throughout adulthood.
In 2007, she graduated from WPI in Worcester, Mass., with a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. Here, she met three of her closest friends. They quickly became "the four beautiful, brainy women of Riley Hall" where they spent their first of many years together. Meg went on to hold several jobs as a Chemical Engineer, most recently at Velcro. She was greatly loved and respected by her colleagues. Her education and profession lent her the opportunity to travel abroad and experience different cultures around the world.
Meg is remembered as a brilliant woman. While she was a pioneer for women in the sciences, she never left behind her femininity and fierce attention to detail. Meg was a highly organized, talented scientist, who also loved caring for her home, crafting, painting and cooking. Never forgetting a birthday or special moment, Meg always took the opportunity to make her family and friends feel special. Yet, she also could stand tall and eloquently against any injustices she felt deserved her attention, while never compromising her dignity and class.
To all who love her, it is befitting that her name, Meghan, means "pearl", as she shone so brightly and perfectly in the most pure, beautiful sense. She will take with her all of her memories, all of her sisterly secrets and all of the knowledge she has acquired. While she leaves us, in a wake of a terrible storm, with an emptiness we cannot convey but with a hope that we can follow in her kind footsteps.
"Oh My Golly" will she be missed.
