Merle Antoinette Paris (Gleason-Woitkowski)

Listen to Obituary

Merle A. Paris, 84, passed away peacefully and gracefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family and her loyal dog, Tessa, after braving Alzheimer's disease like a champion.

She was the daughter of the late Irving & Bella (Bilodeau) Gleason. Merle graduated from Manchester Central High School, Class of 1959. She treasured her roots and maintained many lifelong friendships from her old neighborhood.

Shortly after graduation, Merle started her own family. The greatest work of her life was raising her five children. With dedication, devotion, unwavering support, and deep, deep love, motherhood was her soul's purpose.

As a single mother, Merle worked hard to provide for her family. She was a waitress at Mr. Steak Restaurant, Johnny O's, and Salona's, where she built warm connections with customers who often became friends.

Merle, affectionately known as "Merlsie", had a gift for counted cross stitch and embroidery. She poured creativity and love into each piece, gifting her works to family and friends.

Seventeen years ago, Merle found the love of her life when she married Paul, who devotedly cared for her. Their time together was filled with joy, laughter, and deep companionship.

Merle is survived by her loving husband, Paul Paris of Manchester; her children Kim Levasseur and her husband Jean of Manchester, Daniel Hoffman and his wife Kelly of Brentwood, Toby Heisey and her husband John of Rye, and Adam Woitkowski of Manchester; her sister Kay Frejia of Virginia; her step-children Tim and Pam Paris of Weare, Sheri Paris of Hudson, and Freda Paris and Troy Corey of Candia. She was "Nana" and "Nana Merle" to grandchildren Nick, Chelsea, Brittany, Justin, Charlie, Evan, Meagan, Sam, James, Justin D, Chris, and Sarah. She was also Gran Nan to her great-grandson, Atticus. She was predeceased by her son Matthew Woitkowski; her siblings Carol Earl, Roger Gleason, and Dennis Gleason.

Assisting the family with arrangements is the Cremation Society of NH, Manchester. There will be a Celebration of Life on Monday, October 6th, 2025, from 4pm-6pm at the Cremation Society of NH, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH 03104.

Merle's family would like to thank Nurse Heidi, from Home Health and Hospice Care for the compassionate care she provided. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Hospice House in Merle's name.
