Merrick Errol Lane, a 75-year-old resident of Rochester, New Hampshire, for 74 years, most recently of Wakefield, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, surrounded by family and friends at Wentworth Douglas Hospital. Born on July 24, 1950, in Rochester to Mable and Ralph Lane, Merrick cherished his family. He had diverse interests including cars, planes, machinery, knives, guns, and woodworking, which he enthusiastically shared with his children and grandchildren. Known for his kindness and loving nature, Merrick exemplified the qualities of a true gentleman and an all around Mr fix it guy. 

After a distinguished 47-year career at Jarvis Cutting Tools, where he began as a machinist and later transitioned to the maintenance department, Merrick retired. He was a proud member of the Masonic Temple Humane Lodge No. 21 for 40.5 years, receiving the esteemed Honorary Past Master award, an honor bestowed upon only three individuals in the lodge's 216-year history. Additionally, Merrick had been a member of the American Legion Post 7, the Victoire Club of Rochester, New Hampshire, the Dover Elks Lodge 184, and the Granite State Street Rodders, where he enjoyed showcasing his 1963 Split Window Corvette at car shows. 

Merrick was preceded in death by his parents, Mable and Ralph Lane. He is survived by his wife, Ann Lane; sister, Mona Norwood; brother, Marcus Lane, and his wife, Donna; son, Brett Lane Stern, and his husband, Paul; three stepsons, Stanley Taylor and his wife, Heather, Dennis LaPanne, and Michael LaPanne; close friends Harald Holmes, who was like a brother and Allen Smith, who was like a son to him; 9 grandchildren, Ashley, Drake, Karysa,Jaden, Avery, Owen, Lily, Joshua and Noah; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
