Michael C. Blackler Sr. 77, of 1393 Forest Road, Greenfield, died October 1, 2001 at the Cheshire Medical Center in Keene after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Manhattan, NY on November 17, 1923, the first of 12 children born to Wilfred and Marguerite (Doyle) Blackler and spent most of his childhood living in Billerica, MA. Michael was a veteran of WWII having served in the Merchant Marines, U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Navy as a member of the Scouts and Raiders. He served in the South Pacific Theater during WWII. Michael was honorably discharged August 15, 1945. In 1949, Michael was married to Geraldine Smith of North Adams, MA. They lived in Somerville, MA, Bolton Landing, NY, Peterborough, NH and Greenfield, NH. He enjoyed sailing. Michael is survived by his wife of 52 years, Geraldine (Smith) Blackler; his son Michael C. Blackler, Jr. of Bedford, NH; two daughters, Philomena Blackler of Greenfield and Elizabeth Brotherton of Fort Myers, FL; 5 grandchildren; Brett Blackler, Rory Behrle, Daniel, Mikaela and Brianna Blackler; and two great grandchildren; Katlin and Shelby Blackler; four brothers, Harold Blackler of Medford MA, William Blackler of NY, Charles Blackler of Somerville, MA and Robert Blackler of Hull, MA.; three sisters, Linda Miceli of Wakefield, MA Jean Kelly of Tewksbury, MA, Jewel Cadieux of Tewksbury; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. A memorial gathering will take place on Friday afternoon from 2 to 3 PM at the Cremation Society of New Hampshire, 243 Hanover St, Manchester. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 in the Cremation Society Chapel. Urn burial will take place in the Spring at Bedford Center cemetery.
