Michael Adrian
Locking
January 14, 1932 – May 13, 2026
St. Joseph Cemetery Chapel
Starts at 2:00 pm (Eastern time)
Michael Adrian Locking, 94, died May 13, 2026, in Manchester, NH. He was born on January 14, 1932, in Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire, UK, the son of Kenneth and Ida Locking. He was the husband of Suzanne Locking, who predeceased him in February 2026. They were married on June 29, 1985, in Greenwich, CT.
Michael had an incredible life. He became a Chartered Public Accountant straight out of high school and spent many years in Kenya and Brazil working for international accounting firms. He became a partner for KPMG and relocated to New York City, where he met his wife, Suzanne. After KPMG, he worked at Barclay’s Bank in Manhattan before moving to Abingdon, Virginia, with his wife and baby daughter in 1989. He started an entirely new career in Virginia, working as a home loan originator for the Virginia Housing Authority. Michael became a beloved force throughout southwest Virginia, spending every day traveling around the mountains and working with banks, realtors, and first-time homebuyers. He finally retired at the age of 87 in 2019 and moved to New Hampshire in 2024 to be closer to his daughter.
Throughout the years, Michael discovered countless passions and loves and was learning new things until the very end. In Kenya, he joined the Nondescripts Rugby Club, where he proudly played the hooker position. He taught himself woodworking and marquetry, building an entire library for his wife in their Virginia home. He refereed for his daughter’s junior soccer league in his sixties and rode his first rollercoaster at the tender age of 80. He learned to cook at 89 to take care of his wife, and he became an avid puzzler in retirement. In addition to all of these activities, Michael rescued dozens of animals and loved each one dearly. He was known to his British nephews as the “legendary Uncle Mike” for his world travels and sense of adventure, and he lived up to the legend.
Even though he lost many friends and family in recent years, he still leaves behind loved ones throughout the world, in every place he travelled. He was wholeheartedly dedicated to the people around him, and to the very end he took incredible care of his family, despite fighting cancer and heart failure. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by his daughter, Alexandra Locking, and numerous nephews and grandnephews and nieces in England.
A funeral mass will be held at the St. Joseph Cemetery Chapel in Bedford, NH, at 2 pm on Friday, May 22nd.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a memorial contribution to the New Hampshire SPCA.
