Michael Joseph McGarrity

Michael Joseph McGarrity, 75, died December 8, 2022, at Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH. He was born on December 22, 1946, in South Bend, Indiana, the son of Melvin and Bernice McGarrity.

He was the husband of Carol (Rainwater) McGarrity. They were married on October 13, 1967, in South Bend, Indiana.

Michael enjoyed wood working and selling he and Carol’s creations at craft shows. He enjoyed socializing with his friends and watching television.

As a young man Michael was inspired to serve our nation by the assassination of John F. Kennedy. He left Indiana and joined the Navy in 1964. During his service he performed 8 tours in Vietnam as a gunner on several ships. Michael met his wife, Carol in 1967 while home on leave, marrying only seven weeks later. The couple lived happily in southern California, having two children before Michael left the Navy in 1975. He began his 33-year truck driving career in Ohio, working for Anchor Motor Freight, then Rogers Cartage in Illinois, before signing on with Van Waters & Rogers in California and Indiana; from which he retired in 2008.

Michael was predeceased by his parents and siblings, his wife of 48 years, Carol (Rainwater) McGarrity, and his son, Michael Joseph (Joe) McGarrity, Jr.

Michael is survived by his daughter, Christina and her husband, Jonathan Colantuoni; grandchildren, David and Julia of Amherst, New Hampshire; and several beloved nieces and nephews across the United States.
