Michael Eugene Ryan, age 74, passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, in his apartment at the Meetinghouse Supportive Care Home in Manchester, NH. He was born on October 25, 1946 in Binghamton, NY, the son of Michael James Ryan and Marguerite Cline Ryan, and resided in Brooklyn, NY, followed by Hartsdale, NY, for most of his upbringing.
Michael graduated from the University of NY at New Paltz with a Mathematics Degree, followed by a Masters in Guidance at New York University. He taught high school math for many years, with his longest service with Pelham High School, where he was a beloved and well-liked teacher. He then served as the Director of the Guidance Department for many years at Pelham and finished his career as a guidance counselor at Chelmsford High School in MA. Michael also worked many second jobs throughout much of his career to support his family.
Michael was a loyal friend to many in his childhood and was blessed to have a remarkably close group of neighborhood friends, many of which he maintained throughout his adult life. He excelled in many sports, including baseball, basketball, ping pong, billiards, and bowling. He won a NY State Ping Pong Championship and he was a stellar bowler in numerous bowling leagues in his adult years. Mike was also a long-time certified baseball umpire for high school and college baseball and softball. He also coached the high school basketball team to a championship season. He coached his son's basketball and baseball teams throughout their youth. His other hobbies included movies, watching sports, playing Bridge, and reading. Prior to his declining health, Michael was part of Manchester Christian Church in Manchester, NH.
Michael is predeceased by his older sister, Maureen, of New York. He is survived by his three sons, Michael and his wife, Barbara, Craig and his wife, Amy, and Chris, and his wife, Jennifer, his 10 grandchildren, his brother John, and his wife Christine, numerous nieces and nephews, and dear friends - Johnny and Tony.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 30, 2021, at the Cremation Society of New Hampshire, 243 Hanover Street Manchester, NH. The service will be a short funeral format, followed by sharing of memories. Masks are required.
