Michael D. Youngman, 83, of Danville, Vermont passed away peacefully at home on December 17, 2025 in the arms of his loving wife Paula.

Born in Washington D.C. in 1942 to the late Albert and Ruth Youngman.

Michael was a long time, much loved, High School teacher and a respected mental health professional. He had a summer seasonal vending business with his wife where he was affectionately known as “Mr. Smoothie”. They traveled to many music festivals to offer the best fresh fruit smoothies.

Michael spent his younger years life guarding the shores of Compo Beach in Westport, Connecticut, playing football, and making music with friends. In high school, he formed bands and played wherever he could, laying the foundation for a lifelong love of music and friendship that stayed with him long after those days ended.

Michael had a love of and much knowledge of 50s Rock & Roll and Doo-Wop. He was a gifted guitar player, singer, and writer of small, unforgettable songs. At gatherings, he would often pick up his guitar and launch into an impromptu performance of one of his ditties—usually inspired by someone in the room, and often to that person’s amused discomfort. His voice, timing, and sharp sense of humor turned these moments into something everyone secretly hoped would happen, even if they pretended otherwise. Those songs, and the laughter that came with them, are now part of the memories we’ll carry with us.

Michael was proud to be Henny Youngman’s second cousin, and he really did think the humor came with the name. Whenever Henny was in town, Michael made a point of going to see him. He loved the connection, loved the stories, and loved being close to someone who made people laugh for a living. He carried that same love of humor with him throughout his life.

Survivors who will miss him deeply are his wife Paula (Tufts), daughters Candice Youngman of Novato, CA, Castle & Peter Poulopoulos of Holliston, MA and their daughter Isadora Poulopoulos, his step-son Jesse Lavoie & his wife Kelli Eckroth of Granville, VT, and his sister Teri Klein of Westport, CT.

A family gathering to celebrate Michael’s life is planned.
