Miles J. Carter

Listen to Obituary

Miles Jonathan Carter, 65, passed away on April 9, 2026 at home with his family after a six year battle with prostate cancer. Miles was born February 18, 1961, the third child and second son of Helen (Greene) and Wallace F. Carter of Hillsboro. He lived his entire life in Hillsboro, a graduate of the class of 1979. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 47 years, MaryRose (Rogers) Carter, his daughters Meghan Faith Carter, Serah Lynn Carter, Rachel Davison (Keegan), and his granddaughter, Laurel Rose Davison of Hillsboro, NH. He is further survived by his sister Wanda of Hillsboro, brother Wallace Jr. of Washington, several nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as a lifetime of close friends from school and work years. He is predeceased by his parents, brother Nathan, brother-in-law Martin Robie, and his best friend, Robert Beard.

Miles worked for his parents after graduation at Yeaton & Maine until he joined the Hillsboro Highway Department in 1988 as an equipment operator. He spent 34 years with the dept. before cancer and other conditions forced him to resign. He also worked for many years for Skip Edwards, whom he considered a second father. He was an incredibly smart and hard worker who took great pride in going above and beyond in his daily work. He always said, “Do it right the first time.” His quick smile and truck wave will be missed by the many who knew him. The hole he leaves in his family's lives is much larger than any rock he ever moved out of the earth. We will love and miss you everyday until we meet again.

Miles' last wishes are being fulfilled by the Cremation Society of NH. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the education fund Miles set up for his granddaughter with Edwards Jones, P.O. Box 77, Hillsboro, NH 03244.

A celebration of life will be planned by the family for a later date.
