Milton Burnett of Dover, NH, died June 8, 2022 after a period of failing health.
Milton called New Hampshire home in 1984, when he moved here from Bronx, NY to pursue his education and expand his painting business. Milton received his Masters from UConn as a LCSW, and went on to graduate with a doctorate from Nova Southern University in Education, Child and Youth studies in 1994.
Milton worked at Seacoast Mental Health Center in Portsmouth for many years, doing psychiatric evaluations in the Portsmouth and Exeter Hospital emergency rooms, as well as a private practice in Dover, NH. He had a good rapport with many and was known as “Uncle Milty” to many who knew him.
Milton was born in Richmond, Va, to Milton and Clara (Erhart) Burnett. He leaves behind his sister Jane Ketron of Richmond, Va., his son Alfred Burnett from Falls Church, Va.; 3 grandchildren Joshua, Jeremy, and Amber, as well as five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Ernest Burnett.
Milton was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Hampton, NH. He loved to write and was published in Whispering Angels, when he submitted a short story about a professor who started him on his journey from a GED at 44, to a doctorate at the age of 52.
Other than reading memoirs and biographies of people like Churchill, Freud, and Hemingway, Milton also loved his British mysteries. But he loved nothing more than the ocean. It was always his peaceful retreat.
There will be a private gathering at one of his beloved beaches at a future date.
Per Milton’s wishes, there will be no service but donations in his memory can be made to:
