Miriam G. (Demers) Shutt, 91, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026, with family by her side. Born on February 24, 1935, in Lawrence, MA, Miriam was the daughter of the late Rene and Helen (Pelletier) Demers of Andover, MA.

She grew up in Andover and graduated from Punchard High School where she made lifelong friendships. She was an English major at Merrimack College and spent 18 years in the Newspaper industry. She was a reporter and photographer for the Lawrence Eagle-Tribune in Lawrence, MA and the Editor of the Style Section of the Lowell Sun. She was an avid reader and maintained her love for the newspaper business, having the Boston Globe delivered until her final days.

In 1975, she transitioned to public relations in healthcare. She was the Director of Public Relations at St John’s Hospital in Lowell, MA. Later, after moving to NH she was Director of Volunteer Services at St Joseph’s Hospital in Nashua, NH.

Mim, as she was known to all, was the youngest of 4 siblings. She is predeceased by all 3 and their spouses: brother Ronald V. Demers, his wife Joyce, brother Leonard (Biff) Demers, his wife Shirley and her sister, Eleanor (Demers) Kearn and husband Warren. She had tremendous love for her nieces and nephews that survive her, including Warren F. “Rick” Kearn, Louise Kearn Emerson, Jane Kearn Bistany and Charles Kearn as well as their children.

In her later years, she lived in Hudson and then Bedford NH with the love of her life, the late William T. Shutt, husband of 24 years. She was stepmother to his 10 children: the late William Shutt, Dennis Shutt, Karen (Shutt) Hebert, Dianne (Shutt) Walsh-Green, Marybeth (Shutt) Snow, the late Gary Shutt, Kevin Shutt, Thomas Shutt, Theresa (Shutt) Faucher and Timothy Shutt. She leaves behind 24 grandchildren and a growing number of great and great-great grandchildren, whom she probably adored most of all. At any family gathering she could be found in the rocking chair singing to the newest family addition.

Her longest relationship began at age 5 with the late Rosemary (Davidson) Flynn. Despite moving to Texas, Rosemary remained her closest friend, talking almost every day about everything and nothing. Both dedicated Patriots fans, the 2 animated women would call each other while watching every game “together”. It was not uncommon to hear cheering and jeering from the TV room on any given Sunday.

Mim cherished time with family, hosting many holidays in her home with Bill. She enjoyed cooking, always having coffee cake or blueberry muffins for any visitor. Together they liked to garden and enjoyed frequent Sunday drives. They liked to travel and often enjoyed their time together in Stowe Vermont especially.

SERVICES: A memorial funeral Mass will be held at St Elizabeth Seton in Bedford NH on June 16, 2026, at 11:00. Burial will be private for the family.

Assisting the family with arrangements is the Cremation Society of NH, Manchester. To view Miriam's Online Tribute, send condolences to the family, or for more information, visit www.csnh.com.
