Muriel “Mew” Black, born on April 10, 1936, in Saugus, Massachusetts, to William and Elizabeth Warren, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2025. Her passing came just sixteen days after the loss of her beloved husband of 69 years. Muriel was a devoted wife, loving mother, and loyal friend who’s remarkable 88 years were a blessing to all who knew her.
Muriel had a lifelong love of dogs, particularly Labrador Retrievers, which she bred and showed with great passion. Her home was often filled with the joy and energy of her beloved companions, reflecting her nurturing spirit and deep appreciation for animals.
She was an accomplished and versatile artist, excelling in numerous creative pursuits. Her needlework, stained glass, knitting, wood carving, and rug-making displayed her talent and meticulous attention to detail. Muriel’s stained-glass creations were especially noteworthy; she poured her heart into each piece, carefully selecting the perfect colors and textures to bring her visions to life. Together with her husband, she enjoyed searching for the ideal glass to complete her work. These stunning creations became treasured gifts and keepsakes for family and friends. In addition to her other artistic endeavors, her whimsical stuffed animal creations brought endless delight to her grandchildren, capturing her playful and loving nature.
Beyond her artistry, Muriel found joy in many simple pleasures. She was an avid cook, a voracious reader, and a lover of music, often filling her days with melodies and stories. She also enjoyed the challenge of complex puzzles, finding satisfaction in solving them with patience and care.
Muriel’s devotion to her family was the cornerstone of her life. Family was her greatest priority, and her love was evident in every aspect of her care for them. She was known for her homemade desserts, always freshly prepared and waiting for her children when they returned from school, creating a warm and welcoming home filled with love. Her selflessness, kindness, and unwavering support were constant throughout her life.
Muriel’s legacy is one of love, devotion, and creativity, woven into the hearts of her family and friends. Her memory will live on through the countless lives she touched and the enduring beauty of her art.
She is survived by her children: James Black and his wife Holly of Kennebunkport, Maine; Bonnie Hart and her husband Rich of Lynn, Massachusetts; and Susan Norton and her husband Jack of Sandown, New Hampshire, along with her brother James Warren. She also leaves behind her treasured grandchildren: Abigail Robbins and her husband Todd, Andrew Black, Erin Hart, Sean Hart, and Jacqueline Allen, as well as great-grandchildren Sonnet Allen, Olivia Robbins, Addison Robbins, Mason Black, Jude Black, and Layla Black. Muriel was predeceased by her husband Harold Black, her parents, her siblings Ronald and Dorothy, and her dear grandson Marcelo Villegas.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Research Hospital or an animal rescue organization of your choice.
SERVICES: A graveside service will be at Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn, Massachusetts, for both Muriel and her husband Harold on Tuesday, January 21st at 11am.
