Muriel (Peggy) Sanborn Hoyt, 92, died on January 10, 2015, at Riverwoods, a Continuing Care Retirement Community in Exeter, NH, where she lived. Her husband, Dick Aplin, survives. Her previous husbands, Robert Baxter of Durham, NH, and Milt Hoyt of East Madison, NH predeceased her. She leaves two children, Robert Baxter of Union, NH, and Kathryn Baxter of Auburn, CA, as well as, eight stepchildren: Ted Hoyt, Bob Hoyt, Susie Hoyt, Priscilla Aplin March, David Aplin , Leslie Aplin Wharton, Beth Aplin, and Mark Aplin. Her blended family also consists of three grandchildren and thirty-nine step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Peggy was born to Dorothy and Eastman Sanborn in New York City, but lived most of her life in her beloved New England. She spent many years with her second husband, Milt Hoyt, at the Hoyt family businesses, Purity Spring Resort and King Pine Ski Area in East Madison, NH.
Peggy had a great zest for life. She served in the US .Coast Guard (SPARS) during WWII, graduated from the University of New Hampshire, served as a school principal in Nottingham, NH, and taught science in the Durham, NH, schools. She had a great interest in people, places, and things. Her travels took her to all 50 states, 45 countries, and 7 continents. For many years she contributed to her community. She was an active member of the DAR for more than fifty years and a volunteer at the Mt. Washington Observatory. She started the Meals on Wheels program in the Conway area and was a contributor to the Riverwoods community.
She will be sorely missed by her family and many friends.
A celebration of her life will be held on the Woods Campus at Riverwoods, 7 Riverwoods Dr., Exeter, NH, on Saturday, January 31 at 2 pm.
