Myron "Doc" Weiner

Dr. Myron T. Weiner, affectionately known as "Doc", died on February 22, 2021 following a period of declining health.

Doc was born December 31, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY, the only child of Miriam and Edward J. Weiner. He attended grammar school in Brooklyn and Stepney, Connecticut, middle school in Brooklyn and high school at Styvacent in Manhattan, NY and graduated from Miami Beach Senior High School in Miami Beach, FL. From there he went to Emory University in Atlanta, GA for his BA degree and the University of Texas in Austin, TX for his doctorate degree, interning at the San Antonio State Hospital in San Antonio, TX.

He married Vivian Horowitz, they have three children. He spent two years in the Army during the Korean Conflict. During his schooling, he worked for Winston Burdine, MD, a psychiatrist with an office practice and small private hospital in Atlanta, GA. Doc was licensed to practice in Georgia, Vermont and New Hampshire. He spent the last fourteen and a half years employed by the NH State Hospital; starting in 1984 until he retired in 1999, at the age of 69.

From 1970 to 1980, Doc owned and operated a Jewelry store in Coconut Grove, Miami, FL, named OM Jewelry, where he met and married Sonya Harris. The store was an artistic and financial success employing as many as twenty hippie artists. Every item in the store was made on the premises except for machine made Italian neck chains. It was said that every student at the University of Miami owned at least one piece of Doc's jewelry. Several of his former employees moved on to having stores of their own. In 1980, Doc sold out to his chief artist, Wayne Brehm, who became a noted member of the community. Some years later Wayne died of brain cancer; that was the end of OM jewelry. Wayne's father was a physician, Wayne illustrated an anatomy book his father authored. Wayne was able to take a customer's picture of a pet and create a piece of jewelry that was a perfect likeness.

Doc's third wife was Helen Hunt of Contoocook, NH. They lived happily for ten years in Penacook, NH until her death by colon cancer.

Doc then partnered with Violet Duprius and lived in Concord NH on the same street as her son Mark Gugliotta.

Doc was an active member and board member of the Basil Woods Jr chapter of Trout Unlimited and was an active fly tier until his death. He mostly tied Reversed Head Streamers and Palmer wrapped attractor flies for himself and his friends and donated many of his flies to "Hope On The Rise" and his TU chapter for their annual banquet and auction. His flies are fantastically effective for all those who use them; Doc's favorite was: Doc's Hairy Satan Nymph, Doc's Caterpillar Fly.

Doc's best friend was Gordon Riedesel. He lived in Pembroke, NH before moving to NC. Gordon was Doc's first fly tying student. Gordon soon surpassed Doc's ability and became a master fly tyer.

Another best friend was "Tonto" (Jim Westrich) who lived in TN and died of prostrate cancer, they met at fly tying seminars in NH taught by the legendary fly tyer and author, Dick Talleur.

Doc Weiner loved his profession as a psychologist, especially his assisting patients to grow with psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy. His basic view of treatment was that as a therapist you create an atmosphere which enables the patient to mature and change their own attitudes and behavior. He also believed that a trained therapist would pick at a patient's self-destructive habitual behavior.

Doc's favorite sayings were: "It is what it is", and "Go Forth and Enjoy". His favorite prayer was, "God, grant me the Serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the Courage to change the one I can, and the Wisdom to know it's me."

Doc was a good person who valued every person he came in contact with. He loved animals and always had a cat at his side. He loved his wife, fly tying and his cat, in that order.
