Nancy Miller Allison

Nancy Miller Allison of Manchester, NH, passed away at the age of 94 on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022 at the Hillsborough County Nursing Home in Goffstown, NH.

Nancy was born in Great Barrington, MA, on October 19, 1927. She grew up in North Egremont, a small town in the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts. She especially loved to play in the shallow waters of the Green River which rambled through her town.

In 1948, Nancy married Roy Frederick Allison of Milford CT. In 1957, they moved to the suburbs of Boston, where they raised their 3 children, James Frederick, Christine and Dorothy. Nancy also had lots of fur babies to keep her company, including a small poodle named Andy, and many cuddly cats. Later in life, Nancy and Roy moved to NH.

Nancy faced many challenges coping with the onset Rheumatoid Arthritis in her early thirties. She was an artist who never let her disease stop her from creating amazing works of art. These included oil paintings, decoupage, crewel embroidery, crocheted dolls and afghans, painted ceramics, silk screened Christmas cards, and collages made from old jewelry. When her hands were too weak to do her crafts, she wrote a memoir of her childhood in western Massachusetts entitled Hollyhocks, Rhubarb and My Green River. She also wrote beautiful descriptive poetry. During her last five years in the Hillsborough County Nursing Home, she spent her time coloring intricate patterns from adult coloring books. Another way Nancy expressed her love of color and design was through her beautiful flower gardens. She had a bright green thumb and lovingly cared for her indoor plants when she was unable to continue outdoor gardening. She was an artistic warrior who never gave up!

Nancy is survived by her three children, ten grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
