It is with immense sorrow that we announce the passing of Nancy Dorothy (Palmer) DuBois who departed peacefully on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. A month shy of her 92nd birthday, she left us surrounded by the love of her family, a love that she herself created and nurtured.
Nancy was born on March 16, 1934 in Lewiston, ME to parents Mabel (Hamel) and George Palmer. They lived in the area of Auburn and Lewiston throughout her childhood and she graduated from Lewiston High School in 1952. Nancy was an avid dancer as a child and teenager and was endearingly described by many of her classmates as a “swell gal”. It was in high school that she met her high school sweetheart Robert (Bob) DuBois. They married on September 14,1957 and shared 45 years together. They began their married life in Maine and started their family. Having been an only child, Nancy was keen to have a very large family: the first four of seven children were born here. In 1964, they relocated to New Hampshire, the three youngest children were born and they raised their family. Nancy stayed in Manchester after Bob’s passing in 2003 before moving to the seacoast in 2008 where she lived the remainder of her life.
As “Mom” to her kids and “Mumsi/Mimi” to her grandchildren, Nancy was happiest when surrounded by her family. Nothing brought her more joy than watching her family expand and grow. She was a dedicated and ever-present mother in all aspects of her children’s lives. She was actively involved in the school community and engaged in their education. As a long-standing member of the PTA Nancy took on a variety of leadership roles planning, organizing and running events such as talent shows and fundraisers. Despite not driving herself, she always found a way to baseball and softball fields, basketball courts, auditoriums, and gymnastics or track meets to cheer on her children. She carried this forward to her grandchildren, enthusiastically supporting their activities whenever possible.
Nancy enjoyed participating in musical and variety shows with her husband and friends. She was an avid Red Sox fan and took any opportunity she could to get to Fenway for a game, especially when Jim Rice was on the field. During the summer months she also loved to spend time on the beach and would never turn down a good old New England lobster bake! All children, especially babies, held a special place in Nancy’s heart which led her to spend several years volunteering as a Foster Grandmother at local childcare centers. More recently she discovered her inner artist, creating several beautiful paintings, and brought us tremendous joy and laughter with her quick witted sense of humor.
By being herself, Nancy taught us to be gracious and kind. Always beaming with positivity, she showed us how to embrace and find joy in life’s simple moments and to not sweat the small stuff. She faced life’s obstacles with grace, taking any lemons handed to her and making sweet lemonade or perhaps popping up a giant pan of popcorn! She modeled acceptance and compassion in every situation, often opening her heart and home to any friends who needed it. Her never ending kindness, gentle and easy-going nature and sweet disposition touched all who knew her and will be forever missed.
Nancy was predeceased by her parents, dear husband Bob, beloved son Michael, grandson Alo, four brothers-in-law, Richard (Dick), Paul, Raymond (Ray) and Wiliam (Bill) DuBois, and her sister-in-law Pauline (Valcourt) DuBois. She is survived by her children Kathi DuBois, Lori DuBois, Patti DuBois-Spooner (Tim), Karen DuBois-Garofalo (Piero), Steven DuBois, and Sharon DuBois (John Campbell), grandchildren Luke (Kristin), Kiah (Lorin), Ayasha, Greg, Abigail (Alvin), Ama, Lauren, Em, Noah, Matteo, Alessia, Alessandro, great grandchildren Haven, Dorian, Lenox and Ayla, and many nieces and nephews and their families.
