Nancy B. Hemmerich 1926 â 2012
Nancy B. Hemmerich, 85, of Nashua, NH passed away peacefully, with family by her side, on March 6, 2012 at her apartment at Langdon Place, Nashua, NH of natural causes.
She was born on December 26, 1926 in Providence, RI, the third daughter of the late John W. and Ruth (Somes) Baker. She attended Lincoln School in Providence and was graduated from Wellesley College in 1948 majoring in English Literature.
Prior to Langdon Place, Nancy had resided in Orchard Park, NY from 1949 to 1960; Lorne Park, Ontario, Canada from 1960 to 1966; Winchester, MA from 1966 to 1975; and since 1975 in Newport, RI. She was proud to be a descendant of John Coggeshall who arrived in 1636, which entitled her to membership in the Colonial Dames of Rhode Island. Nancy enjoyed the fine arts, reading and discussion, as well as environmental causes. She was an enthusiastic member of several Newport organizations including Alliance Francais, the Newport Art Museum, a local book club, the environmental group Save the Bay, and the Newport Congregational Church.
Nancy was predeceased by her loving husband Paul Heinz Hemmerich in 1956, and is survived by her sister Vivian Treat of Stratham, NH and Naples, FL and by three children: Paul A Hemmerich of Milford, NH; Gretchen E Hemmerich of Lemon Cove, CA; John B Hemmerich of San Ramon, CA; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, neices, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Her happiest years were spent in Newport RI with her dedicated companion and partner James J. Wells who predeceased her in January, 2012. Together they travelled widely, and entertained many friends and relatives at their residence "Bittersweet" on Brenton Rd.
A Memorial Service is planned for June 3, 2012 at the Newport Congregational Church, corner of Pelham and Spring Streets, Newport, RI. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimers Association.
