Newell Arthur "Buddy" Gordon, of Shrewsbury Massachusetts, crossed over peacfully sunday March 6 2005, at his home æ 74yrs. three mo's 6 days, Of longstanding secondary complications from spinal stenosis. His Family includes, his loving children; a son Michael E. Gordon & his wife Joy“Spencer” Gordon both of Shrewsbury; Kristina Iovanna and her husband David of South Berwick Maine, and their mother, Merlene B."Dailey" Fortin of Rockland Maine.His loving sister Patricia Ann McCullen & husband Frances of Millbury, His Aunt Lurline “Gordon” Plaint of N. Grafton Grandchildren; Adam A. Iovanna of So.Berwick Maine & Judy Iovanna of Md; Michael E.Gordon Jr. of Millbury &wife Barbara “Dillon” Gordon; Nic N.Gordon of Rockland Maine; Also 7 great grandchildren;16 nephews & nieces, & a great number of cousins.His favorite Newfoundland dog Xena.Phyllis Enman a very dear friend & companion.Mr.Gordon is pre deceased by four sisters, Estelle I. Modig Audrey P. Hoyt, June Gordon, of Millbury. Mary E. Slivka of Gowanda NY.He was born in the house he grew up in on Gordons Corner 147 wheelock ave Millbury Massachusetts.Son of the late Newell A. and Elizabeth "Happakoski"Gordon, of Millbury. his father b. in N.Sullivan Me., his mother b. Jurva niemenkyla Finland. They m. oct 15 1920, N. Grafton Ma. He was No. five of six childrenbeing the only boy born @ 15.lbs. He summered in Gloucester with Amalia his grandmother, Mamie Love his aunt on long Beach, & aunt Winona Gray. Buddyfound his deep love of the sea & his"Finn" heritage here early. He enjoyed lobster fishing with his uncle Art Jacobson. He loved Pigeon Cove "the most peacefull place he remembered". As a boy in Millbury, he was raised with his five adoring sisters. He spent much time with his beloved mother and sisters helping her raise chickens and gathering eggs to be sold. Finklestien the rag man & his horse drawn cart, always brought a laugh & a story of the ragmans journey up the road, he & his sister Pat delighted in the calls rags..rags…He was a vetran of the U.S. Navy 1951-1954 & served as a hard hat diver, certified in Bayonne N.J.He served honorably during the Korean War.He was also a champion heavyweight boxer in the Navy.He was employed at Worcester State Hospital as attendant & later as Steam Fireman for 30 years. He ran his own business, McDonalds Sewerage, for many years working two jobs. He loved to work, & brought his special sense of humor wherever he went. Buddy settled in Shrewsbury on east lake rd. and enjoyed his many years on the lake. He loved to sit on his picnic tableby the water & his 300 yr. old pine tree, ponder life, & peace. He was an icon for people on the lake who would pass by his house, he always had a smile & an amiable wave for everyone. A man of few words but respected by all. Family & friends all gathered here, and shared his life, his humor,& his quiet charisma. He a great lover of dogs all his life, had many rescues from "the pound". Buddy also loved deep sea fishing, traveling to the Hullarea to fish with friends. Yearly treks to Rockland Maine were always a joy to visit family and spend time by the ocean, and listen to the old owls head foghorn bellow its mournfull call.His wish is to be cremated then cast into the sea, off the coast of Maine.there he will be at peace.At his request, there will be no formal service.
