Nicholas Charles Dottino, 72, of Manchester died unexpectedly at home on December 11, 2020.
He was born in Albany, New York on December 13, 1947 and was the son of the late Christopher and Rose Dottino, and brother to Delores, Rose, and Faye. He proudly served our country in the U.S. States Navy during the Vietnam War. Nicholas served as a Boatswain's Mate and had been recommended for reenlistment.
Upon being discharged from the Navy, he worked construction, ran a jackhammer in a quarry, pounded railroad spike on one of the last gandy dancer crews before automation, became a fireman on the railroad and then settled into building maintenance supervisor and caretaker positions.
Clean and sober for over 30 years, he spent many years helping people out of depression and addiction. He wrote "Lost in the Valley," a prayer which was circulated several years ago for those in the most desperate circumstances.
He was a larger-than-life man who traveled and told stories of his adventures; was a great cook who made the world's best spaghetti and meatballs; had a sharp eye and steady hand for precise perspective drawings; loved to read paperback westerns; walked two miles a day no matter the weather. His boundless energy, faith and wisdom were his guiding force.
A man of great strength and self-discipline he was always ready for a new adventure. He had a warm booming voice and a bear hug always ready for his family. He relished being a father and grandfather and cherished the time he spent with his family. He will be sorely missed by them.
He is survived by his loving son, Christopher Dottino and his wife, Lucy; four cherished grandchildren, Nicholas, Natalie, Vivian, and Joseph.
