Norah Audrey Attenborough (Ridley), age 94 of Portsmouth, New Hampshire, died peacefully on June 29, 2024.
Norah was born in Dumfries Scotland on July 9, 1929, and moved to London with her family as a young girl. Norah was one of many children whose lives were impacted by the blitz of London during World War II.
After the war, Norah attended Kings College Hospital London and received her degree in nursing in 1952. While in nursing school, she met her future husband Dr. Richard Attenborough. Together Norah, Richard, and their children left the UK in 1960 and settled in Canada, where Richard started several family practice clinics while Norah raised their 5 children, and happily fostered many others.
In 1971, the family left Canada for the US, and settled in Elliot ME, where they developed deep ties to the seacoast community.
Norah practiced as a Registered Nurse throughout her life, culminating her career as the Director of Nursing at The Mark Wentworth home in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. She also devoted her time and skills to Seacoast Mental Health Services.
Norah's love of gardening, quilting , antiquing, and animals was only surpassed by her devotion to and love for her family and her charitable efforts.
