Norma K. "Nicki" Gilmore

Norma (Nicki) K. Gilmore, age 97, passed away on January 12, 2022 at the Havenwood Heritage Heights Retirement Community in Concord, New Hampshire.

Nicki was born and raised in Hackensack, NJ and was a graduate of Mount Holyoke College where she earned a B.A. in political science in 1945. This degree led her to public affairs work in the Department of State in Washington, D.C. where she met Donald Y. Gilmore, a fellow federal government employee with the Central Intelligence Agency. They were married in 1951 and immediately set out for Dakar, Senegal in West Africa, the first of many assignments in their foreign service career with the Department of State and the U.S. Information Agency. Other posts included Rabat, Morocco; Tunis, Tunisia; Brussels, Belgium; New Delhi, India, and Bogota, Colombia. Periodic “home leave” assignments to the Washington, D.C. area also occurred, and found them living in Bethesda, MD and in Oakton, VA. In several of the foreign posts she volunteered in the school libraries which led her to be employed by the Meredith Public Library in Meredith, NH, during her retirement years living on Lake Winnipesaukee. Nicki and her late husband, Donald, began living at Havenwood Heritage Heights in 1999 and enjoyed many fulfilling and active years in the community.

Nicki is survived by her four children: Deborah, born in Rabat, Shelly (Doug), born in East Hartford, CT, Katherine, born in Tunis, and Jefferson (Melanie), born in Carthage, Tunisia. Nicki is also survived by her grandchildren, Paul Howard of Massachusetts, Sarah Howard Caputo also of Massachusetts, Allison Cronin of Maryland and Ian Gilmore of Colorado and her seven great-grandchildren.

No services will be held.

Assisting with arrangements is the Cremation Society of New Hampshire, Boscawen. To view Norma’s online tribute, send condolences to her family, or for more information, visit www.csnh.com
