Norman C. Gilmore, 83, died peacefully at his home in Alton surrounded by his family after a long illness on May 31, 2022.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years Terry S. (Card) Gilmore, daughters Kim Patterson and her husband Robert Patterson, Holly Brown and her husband Dexter Brown, son Robert Gilmore and his wife Linda Gilmore, grandchildren Heather Corriveau, Heath Patterson, Norman Gilbert, Vanessa Rogan and 6 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Dale E. Gilmore.
Norman enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1955. After completing his service there he enlisted in the Navy in 1959. He became a submarine radioman serving aboard the USS Pomfret, USS Archerfish, USS Crevalle, USS James K. Polk and the USS Pargo. He traveled extensively during his 20 years of service and served in duty stations worldwide to include Japan and Hawaii.
He retired from the Navy in 1975 and shortly afterward went to work at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where he retired in 2003. He was a life member of US Subvets and a Member-at-Large of the Fleet Reserve Association.
He loved soaking in the sun on his deck, good books, classical music, a glass of wine, chocolate ice cream and, above all, his wife and family.
A military service was held at the New Hampshire Veteran’s Cemetery in Boscawen, NH on August 1, 2022.
