Norman (Norm) Kenneth Anderson, 73, died peacefully at his home in Sanford, Maine on hospice, surrounded by his family on August 26th 2023.
He was born on November 16, 1949 in Middletown, CT to Kenneth Anderson and Marjorie Hawkesworth Anderson. He was the husband of Cynthia (Scoboria) Anderson, married February 18, 1970 in Middle Haddam, CT.
He is survived by his wife Cindy; daughters Nicole Moss (Phil) and Sara Perry (Josh); grandchildren; River Anderson and Ben Anderson; sisters, Kathy Anderson of Ohio and Bonnie Turner of Missouri, and many nieces and nephews.
He attended school in East Hampton, CT and earned a degree in Social Work from Eastern Connecticut State University. He served in the Navy from 1969-1972, primarily at Oakland Naval Hospital in California as a medic and neuropsychiatric technician. He continued his career in Social Work, working mostly with the mentally ill, especially those disadvantaged in the community. His proudest work accomplishment was helping found a jail diversion program to help clients with mental illness avoid jail time if they were compliant with their mental health treatment plans.
He was a lifelong Episcopalian, faithful to the end, admired for his resonant speaking voice, particularly when reading Scripture or singing. He was also an avid punster and storyteller (which may have been a bit embellished as he got older). He also enjoyed golfing, the ocean, swimming, camping and bonfires.
