Listen to Obituary

Patricia (affectionately known as Pat) was born to R. Linfield and Edith Ward on November 21, 1940. She began her life in Monroe, NH, attending local schools and graduating from McIndoes Academy in McIndoe Falls, VT.

Anyone meeting Pat, even briefly, would recognize her kind and gentle spirit, and her habit of welcoming others with genuine warmth and friendliness.

In her young adult years, Pat met Clarence Hubbard, Jr., and in 1959 they were married. The young couple owned a family dairy farm in Lyman, NH. Farm life was busy, but they enjoyed going dancing when possible. Together they had three children, Lynn, Teresa, and David. Her children grew up understanding the importance of hard work, family, and kindness toward others, by observing the example their mother set.

In addition to helping Clarence on the farm, Pat worked for Ambassador and Mrs. Robert Hill as their private secretary and cook for 12 years. She later worked at Peoples National Bank, where she held many positions from teller, loan officer, to branch manager.

After 24 years of marriage, Pat and Clarence were divorced in 1983. Even though they were divorced, they remained very close; Pat would occasionally make homemade meals and bring them to the farm for him. Pat continued working at Peoples National Bank. In addition, she took a part-time position as bookkeeper for Harris Energy Inc. in Littleton.

In 1985, while employed at People’s Bank, Patricia met Herb when she provided him with a loan. During their courtship, they enjoyed spending time together, especially with their square-dancing friends. Pat and Herb were married in 1986. Their marriage brought Herb’s two wonderful sons, Trevor and Christopher, into her life. Pat and Herb were very active in the church, working on events that served others in the community. They worked with the "Dinner Bell" group which feeds the needy and elderly.

At the age of 57 Pat wanted a career change, she went to cosmetology school and owned and operated Top Notch Stylists. When she sold the business, she went to work for Fern Masonry Inc. as secretary/bookkeeper, and Tile Etc. as business manager.

In 2014 Pat and Herb moved to Sunlake Estates in Grand Island, Florida where they enjoyed family, new friends and warm winters. Even in retirement, Pat was so giving to others. She took charge of the social club at Sunlake Estates. She planned and managed numerous special events and holiday meals, always ensuring that everyone else’s needs were taken care of. She volunteered for hospice, spending many nights reading scripture and comforting people in their final days.

Due to increasing health challenges, in 2021 Pat and Herb moved back to New Hampshire to be closer to family. They enjoyed their new home in Whitefield. In 2023 Pat lost her beloved husband Herb. After several months living alone, she decided to move to Riverglen House where she could still have her independence in her own apartment but also be in a community with friends. She loved her years there, participating in many activities; diamond art, crafts, playing cards, dominos, and bingo, and watching movies and listening to singers and musicians who would come and perform. She continued volunteering for hospice.

As health challenges mounted, Pat made the difficult decision to receive hospice care and expressed a desire to remain in her Riverglen home. Her wishes were respected, and she passed away at home on February 9th, surrounded by family and close friends during her time in hospice care. Pat leaves behind, daughter Teresa (Joseph), son David (Jennifer), stepsons Trevor (Cathy) and Christopher, brother Ted (Sandi), sister Beverly (Larry), half-sister Donna, sister-in-law Jessie, 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved parents and stepmother Sarah Jane “Sally” and stepfather Charles Burgess, her loving and devoted husband Herb, her cherished daughter Lynn, her brother Bob and sister-in-law Dora, her half-brother Douglas, her stepbrother Joseph, as well as her brothers-in-law Don and Curt.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Pat’s memory can be made to North Country Home Health & Hospice Agency at 536 Cottage Street, Littleton, NH 03561.

SERVICES: Memorial service will be March 7th, at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church on Main St. in Littleton, NH. Reception to follow in the church fellowship hall.
