Paul Peter
Champagne
Jul 19, 1942 — Jun 11, 2026
Paul Champagne passed away peacefully on June 11, 2026 after a brief illness.
Paul was born on July 19, 1942, in Allenstown, NH, to Camille & Lauretta (Greaves) Champagne. He grew up in Allenstown and attended local schools, including Pembroke Academy, and served in the United States Marine Corps.
For more than 60 years, Paul worked in construction beginning on bridges and ending as a superintendent building commercial structures including schools, nursing homes, and large retail stores across New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Vermont. An avid vegetable gardener, he maintained large gardens that fed many for nearly 50 years. When he fell ill this spring, he told medical staff that he needed to get well to plant this year’s garden. He developed an interest in cooking in the late 1990s and became quite a baker. Everyone from the person that delivered his home heating oil to the local pharmacist, as well as all of Paul’s family were the happy beneficiaries of this hobby. Paul’s favorite treat to share were his whoopie pies but there wasn’t a baked good he wouldn’t attempt to recreate or improve. Despite all of this, he will likely be remembered most for the way he loved and cared for his family. No matter what anyone needed - food, a ride, a handyman - Paul was there. If you were kind to him or his family, he considered you family and treated you as such. Paul’s pride and joy were his 4 grandchildren. He would brag to anyone who would listen (and likely many who would rather not) about his grandchildren’s accomplishments. Whether you called him husband, Dad, Pépère, Uncle, or just Paul, you were lucky to have been in his orbit.
Paul is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carole (Porter), his daughter, Lisa (Chad) O’Connor of Holland, Michigan, grandchildren Mallory & Brynne LaPlante, Dana & Levi O’Connor, all of Holland, Michigan; sisters Marie (John) Cusson of Pembroke, Muriel (David) Tracy of Auburn, and Julie Champagne of Blaine, WA; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 7 brothers and 4 sisters.
Paul’s ashes will be interred at the New Hampshire Veteran’s Cemetery in Boscawen. A celebration of life will be held in August.
