Paul Smith Hannon of Chelsea, VT died on Wednesday, August 16, 2023. Paul was born on September 10, 1946, to Leon J. and Elsie S. Hannon in Revere, Massachusetts.  Paul attended Lowell Trade School where he specialized in auto mechanics and was then drafted into the Army in 1965 where he served state side in Virginia. Paul married Linda S. Dearth in Chelmsford, Massachusetts in 1966 and they went on to have 3 children, Lynn, Paula and Scott. After the Army, he worked as a mechanic in Massachusetts and the family relocated to Vermont in 1976.

Paul spent much of his time cutting his own firewood, had a portable welding business, was the Director on the Legislative Committee of the towing association, was a deacon in the East Randolph Baptist Church and ran their family owned and operated garage and towing service through Hannon’s Garage. Paul would travel out west to pick up cars and restore them to their original beauty. Paul was an avid reader, enjoyed history, talking politics, farming and farmers, spending time with his family and friends, antique tractor pulling and haying even right up to the last few months of his life. Paul was an expert machinist and had an extensive automotive machine shop and in later years of his life, Paul enjoyed being in the machine shop and updating and buying new equipment.  He loved practical jokes and enjoyed making people smile. Paul loved all animals and quite often had a brood of critters under his care at any time. He had a magnetic personality that people were drawn to. Paul had many acquaintances and close friends that loved to stop by the garage daily and catch up on the community activities and pick up right where they left off from storytelling.

Paul was predeceased by his wife, Linda Hannon, mother and father, Elsie, and Leon Hannon. He is survived by his daughter Lynn Worley and her husband Doug Worley of Tulsa, Oklahoma and grandchildren, Sam, Blake and Molly; his daughter, Paula Brown and her husband Rick Brown of Wrightsville, Pennsylvania and grandchildren Rachel, Cody, Joshua, and Anna and great grandchildren Sarai and Matthew; his son, Paul “Scott” Hannon and his wife Marcey Hannon of North Randolph, Vermont and grandchild Shannon Stover and great grandchild Jace Stover. Paul also leaves behind his partner, Pat Carpenter of Chelsea, Vermont whom he has cherished spending the last six years of his life with.
