Perry Alvin Goodell, 100, was born at home on the family farm in Pompanoosuc (Norwich) VT to Perry Flint Goodell and Gladys (Hammond) Goodell on May 4, 1926. He died peacefully at his home in Littleton, NH on June 19, 2026, with his wife at his side.

Following graduation from Thetford Academy in 1944, Perry enlisted in the US Navy, serving 2 years during WWII. He earned his degree in civil engineering from the University of Vermont. Perry held the distinction of Professional Engineer, of which he was very proud.

Perry married his high school sweetheart, Eschol (Pixley) in 1950. They settled in Littleton, NH, where they raised their family. He was employed by the town as Superintendent of Public Works and taught pre-engineering at Littleton High School. Many of his students credit him with launching their careers. Perry and Eschol completely adopted Littleton, and Littleton completely adopted them. Perry was active at the Methodist Church, cooking spaghetti suppers with the youth group and fish chowder for the Lenten luncheons. He and Eschol were charter members of the Littleton Squares, square dancing with life-long friends. Perry served the Town of Littleton in many volunteer roles, most notably as Water and Light Commissioner. He was known throughout the northern part of NH as a fair and thorough consultant to many of the smaller towns.

Perry was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Katherine Lafoe and Doris Blodgett, brother Curtis Goodell, and son-in-law C. Scott Helman.

He is survived by his wife Eschol; children Charlene Helman, Rita Blackadar (John), Craig (Barbara), and Scott (Sue); grandchildren Sarah, Rachel, John, Heather, Emily, Jessica, Patrick, Tyler, and Anna; and great grandchildren Leighton, Lincoln, Wesley, Willet, Charlie, John, Stephen, Abhilasha, Jillian, Hannah, Marissa and Landon.

Perry treasured his family. He was thankful for his “kids, grands, and greats” and loved when they were all gathered in his home. He engaged each one in conversation and was interested in their lives. He had a green thumb, raising vegetables and flowers; was a woodworker, crafting furniture for every child and grandchild, and an outdoorsman. He loved life, laughter, family, friends, and his mountains.

Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, 18 Main St., Littleton, NH at 2 pm, Friday, July 17, 2026. Burial will be private. Instead of flowers, donations may be made to North Country Home Health & Hospice or Wanakee United Methodist Center. The Cremation Society of NH is assisting the family with arrangements.
