NEW BOSTON â Peter Chickering, 78, passed away May 26, 2016 after a brief period of declining health. He was born February 20, 1938 in Manchester, NH to George and Mary (Colby) Chickering of Pembroke. He was predeceased by his parents, his loving companion Martha Dodge of New Boston in 2004 and recently by his brother Michael Chickering on April 9, 2016. Peter grew up in Pembroke, NH, attending Pembroke Academy and graduating from Lawrence Academy, Lawrence, MA. He graduated from Babson College in Babson Park, MA. An independent business man, his early success in the petroleum business gave him the freedom to become a world traveler, luxury adventurer, and story teller. He was deeply rooted in New England, always maintaining homes in NH and Boston, MA, and spending numerous summers on Drakes Island, ME. Whether you were a well-worn friend or new acquaintance, he would invariably enthrall you with a tale of humor and adventure based on his travels throughout the world. He was especially fond of crossing the Atlantic by cruise ship on his way to Europe where he would invariably encounter people of note who would likely become the stock of new stories.
He is survived by his two nieces, Christine Chickering and her husband Steven Kimball of Auburn, NH, Kimberly Chickering-Maratea of Montrose, CO, his nephew Jefferson Chickering of Manchester, his stepson John Jenkinson of Holderness and his cousins Leigh McDonnell of Marco Island FL, George Harvey Colby of Reston VA, and Sydney Smith of Antrim, NH.
