Peter R. Favreau, 80, of Manchester, NH, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2021, following a long period of declining health. He died at home surrounded by his loving family.
Pete was born on May 17, 1941 to the late Robert J. and Wilma (Verwoert) Favreau of Manchester, NH and was one of nine children. He was a life-long resident of Manchester and also spent many summers in York, Maine.
At the age of 18, after graduating from Bishop Bradley High School, Pete joined the U.S Coast Guard. While stationed in Rockland, Maine, he met the love of his life, Lorraine (Rainey) Tinker Favreau. They were married for 57 years.
Pete joined the Manchester Police Department as a patrol officer in 1964. He later received his Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from St. Anslem's College. He worked his way up through the ranks and was promoted to Chief of Police in 1994. Pete retired in 1996 after 32 years of service. Always active in his community, Pete served on the Salvation Army advisory board for over 25 years and was inducted as a life-time member.
Those who knew Pete will no doubt remember his sharp wit and keen sense of humor as well as his story telling. He was a role model and inspiration to many because of his strong values, work ethic, and kind heart. More than anything, Pete loved and cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His family was his pride and joy.
Pete is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine (Tinker) Favreau; his four children, Pamela (Kevin) Purdy, Lisa (Jeffrey) Belliveau, Kim (Steve Hunt) Favreau, and Peter C. (Amy Formica) Favreau; his grandchildren, Anthony Torres, Michael Torres, Jennafer Purdy, Sean (Nicole) Purdy, Lindsey Belliveau, Jillian Belliveau, Emily Favreau, and Eric Favreau; and great-grandchildren, Jordan, Gabriel, and Adrian Torres. Pete is also survived by his siblings; Judy Beale of Green Valley, AZ, Bobbi (Dan) Beaudet of Hooksett, NH, Kate Benson of Exeter, NH, Mark (Lillian) Favreau of Thousand Oaks, CA, Carole (Rob) McCann of Ontario, CA, Patti (Mike) Gosselin of Manchester, NH, and Christine (Mark) Comer of Bedford, NH, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Pete was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Wilma (Verwoert) Favreau; his sister, Suzanne Favreau LeBlanc Dunham; his niece, Kathleen (Soucy) Hinck; and his grandniece, Allyson Hinck.
The family wishes to thank Interim Health Care, and Amedisys Beacon Hospice for the excellent care during this difficult time. They would also like to thank the many family members and friends for their love and support.
Calling hours will be held at the Cremation Society of New Hampshire, 243 Hanover St. in Manchester, Friday, September 10th from 4 to 7 p.m. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be planned at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pete's memory to the Salvation Army or to the Amedisys Hospice Foundation.
