Listen to Obituary

Peter Lucien Marquis, 92 of Bedford, NH died Thursday, April 2, 2026 at Elliot Hospital in Manchester, NH after a brief illness. He was born on April 14, 1933 in Van Buren, Maine and was the son of William Marquis and Adele Castonguay.

Peter grew up in a country setting in Van Buren, Maine. He left his home in Maine and moved to Connecticut where he met the love of his life, Angela (Angie) Dionne. They spent the majority of their 68 year marriage between Rockville, Connecticut and Manchester, New Hampshire where they raised three children. Later they retired to Sebastian, Florida.

Peter was a proud graduate of Van Buren Boys High School, Class of 1951, where he was fondly remembered for earning the superlatives of “Most Handsome” and “Most Cooperative.” During his high school years, he was actively involved in a wide range of activities, including glee club, intramural basketball, baseball, the athletic association, public speaking, the spelling bee, and the yearbook staff—reflecting both his enthusiasm and well-rounded character. Following graduation, Peter went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Navy for four years, a chapter of his life that spoke to his dedication and sense of duty.

Peter was a lifelong outdoorsman who found great joy in hunting and fishing, especially when sharing those moments with his two sons and friends. As an avid sportsman, he also loved riding his bicycle and embracing the outdoors whenever he could. Known for his kind and generous spirit, Peter was a friend to everyone and could always be counted on to lend a helping hand. Among his many adventures, he proudly climbed Half Dome in California, a testament to his determination and love of a challenge. In his later years, he cherished dancing with his wife, playing dart baseball, participating in local plays, and spending time outside. He also spent time in his retirement remodeling a few American Legion halls. He brought energy and laughter wherever he went, truly the life of the party, and treasured every moment spent with family and friends. Above all, Peter was an amazing father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and one of his greatest joys in life was being surrounded by those he loved.

Peter was one of 13 children. In addition to his parents, we acknowledge and honor those in his family that preceded him in death.

Peter is lovingly survived by his children, Paul Marquis and his wife Dianna, Janet Folsom, and Bill Marquis and his wife Donna. He also leaves behind four cherished grandchildren: Brandon Marquis and his wife Christine, Renee Marquis, Jonathan Folsom and his wife Emilee, and Alyssa Saia and her husband Dan Saia. Peter was a proud great-grandfather to four adoring great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Jackson, and Luke Marquis, and Emmett Saia. He is further survived by his sister, Robertine Dryer, along with many dear sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews who will remember him fondly.
