Phil Claytor

Philemon (Phil) Ray Claytor of Bedford, New Hampshire, passed away on November 26, 2018 from complications of squamous cell carcinoma at the age of 71.

He was born to parents Calvin Claytor and Mabel Claytor, on August 11, 1947 in Waynesboro, Virginia.

Phil attended Montevideo High School in Virginia and went on to play baseball at Georgia Southern University before transferring to Brevard College in Brevard, North Carolina. He graduated from Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, Virginia in 1970.

Phil met Nancy Evans Claytor in 1968 at Bridgewater College and he married the love of his life on June 20, 1970 in Plainfield, New Jersey. Together they raised two children: Kimberly Claytor Hiler of Dunwoody, Georgia and Bryan Claytor of Raymond, New Hampshire.

Phil worked at the Kawneer Company for his 40 years and retired in 2009 as the Eastern Area Sales Manager. Over the course of his career, he made long lasting friendships with anyone who crossed his paths, customers included. Prior to joining Kawneer, he served as a volunteer firefighter and worked tirelessly on his family farm in Grottoes, Virginia.

Throughout his life, Phil enjoyed travelling with his wife Nancy and taking family vacations to the beach or Disney World. Phil would watch any war movie, was an avid sports fan especially the Boston Red Sox and Penn State Football. He was a Civil War and World War II history buff. He loved his family dearly and cherished any opportunity to watch his grandchildren play sports and attend their events. Phil loved his Golden Retriever, Sadie and playing with her in the snow. Other hobbies included attending flea markets, antiquing, collecting coins and researching family ancestry.

Phil is survived by his wife, Nancy of Bedford, New Hampshire, his daughter Kimberly Claytor Hiler and her children Nate and Anna of Dunwoody, Georgia, his son and daughter-in-law Bryan and Alisa Claytor and their children, Aliyah, Cohen, Caden and Avalyn of Raymond, New Hampshire. He is also survived by his mother, Mabel Claytor of Richmond, Kentucky, brother and sister-in law Joe and Kim Claytor of Berea, Kentucky and their children, Laura and Neil and sister-law Brenda Claytor of Gloucester, Virginia and her children, Mackenzie and Austin. Phil was preceded in death by his father, Calvin Claytor of Grottoes, Virginia and his brother Steve Claytor of Gloucester, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MPN Research Foundation at http://www.mpnresearchfoundation.org/ in honor of Nancy or the Community Hospice House of Merrimack, New Hampshire at https://www.hhhc.org/ in his memory, who took such great care of Phil and his family in his last days. A Celebration of Life for family and friends will take place in early 2019.
