Philip Harold Ehret, 76, passed away on February 10, 2025 in Hanover, New Hampshire due to complications of Parkinson’s Disease.
Phil was born in Boston May 3, 1948, the son of Harold and Elsie Ehret. He graduated from Boston Latin School ‘66 and then Dartmouth College ‘70 where he formed life-long friendships, and met his wife, Anne. He continued to frequent Dartmouth events for much of his life. Phil served in the Navy 1970-1974. He graduated from University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1980. Phil and Anne lived in Sunderland, VT from 1981-2022. Phil was a well-respected dentist in Manchester, VT and highly involved member of the First Congregational Church, the Rotary Club and the Manchester community. He and Anne relocated to Kendal at Hanover in 2022.
Phil was an honest, kind, patient person as anyone who knew him can attest. He loved a good joke, could tell a great story, had an astounding memory for minute details. He was always the last to leave a party or event because he wanted to converse with everyone. He loved food, particularly chocolate and ice cream and had an adventurous palate. Phil loved music– singing in the church choir, attending music festivals with family in Canada, playing the flute, and encouraging his son and grandchildren with their instruments. He was a lifelong learner, regularly working to teach himself new skills and languages.
As a dentist, Phil truly cared for all his patients, exchanging stories with each one, wanting the best dental care for each no matter how long it took, and always treating the whole person. He worked long hours and didn’t take short cuts. Phil donated his dental care for several weeks each year at St. Helene orphanage and St. Damien Children's Hospital in Haiti from 2004 to 2014.
Phil was a long-time member of the Manchester rotary club and a leader of the youth exchange program at both the local and district level. He and Anne hosted twenty exchange students. He counseled many more, local and abroad, sharing in their joys, aha moments, and bumps in the road– and then visited and kept in touch with them throughout their lives. He appreciated and loved the diversity in all people and he embraced differences with interest and open arms.
Phil is predeceased by his mother, Elsie, and his father, Harold. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Anne of Hanover, NH, his son Gordon (wife Amanda) and grandchildren Willem and Margaret of Orford, NH, his brother Stephen of Manchester Center, VT, and many beloved friends and family.
