Tilton

Phillip Alan Hunt, 72, died November 21, 2023, at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton, NH. He was born on August 21, 1951, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Ralph O. Hunt, Sr. and Mary E. (Laurie) Hunt.

Phill graduated from South High School in 1969 and attended Evangel College in Springfield, MO, and Dayton Bible College (Ohio) where he completed his degree in Biblical Studies. In 1972, he joined the US Navy and in the late 1980s joined the US Army Reserves, completing about sixteen years of military service. Phill was very proud to have served in the military and often expressed what a positive impact his time in the service had on his life. He became an Electrical Engineering Technician and worked on communications vessels and other ships, and continued on that track after leaving the service for contract-based work.

Phill visited nineteen countries in the course of his career and loved the experience of going to new places and seeing cultural and historical sites. He was an avid historian and also loved reading, art history, antiques and collectibles, especially those from Japan, genealogy, art films, British and American literature, poetry, all kinds of music, creating art assemblages, prints, and paintings, and he was a great dancer. Phill was a charming man and an interesting conversationalist, and had an excellent memory for events, places, and dates and remembered an extraordinary amount of what he read. Phill was a connoisseur by nature and loved exploring the world of art, art objects from all over the world, artisanal techniques and pieces, and fine craftsmanship. He had a mild manner and was loved by many people.

He is survived by his life partner of 30+ years, Charles Hillen of Hopkinton, NH, his twin sister, Phyllis (T. James) Khoury of Nashport, OH, a brother, Ralph, Jr. (Donna) of Olympia, WA, a daughter, Rachel Snyder (Steven) of Xenia, OH, a son, Andrew (Dannie) of Snohomish, WA, and five grandchildren, Aaron (Rachel) Riley, Nicholas (Kathleen) Bowen, Emily Snyder, Naomi and Lilia Hunt, a niece, a nephew, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a niece, Jennifer Khoury-Reader.

A grief circle will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Concord, NH, on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at 5:00pm. Donations in Phill's memory may be made to the New Hampshire Veterans Home.
