Phillippe "Phil" Therrien, 86, of Canaan, VT, passed away on May 29th, 2026, surrounded by his children in Rochester, NH.
Phillippe was born on February 17th, 1940, in Beecher Falls, VT, to Edna and Emile Therrien. He will be remembered as an avid gardener, gifted storyteller, and a deeply sentimental man - no one can top his cards. His yard was always beautifully maintained, and his rhubarb was highly sought after by all those who knew him. He found joy dancing in the living room to Golden Age Country with his love, sharing dinner with his family, or spending time outdoors.
Phil served in the United States Army. Stationed briefly in Germany then in Paris, France, where the Parisians were pleasantly surprised to meet an American who could speak their language fluently. After his military service, he went on to have a 39-year career at the Ethan Allen Factory. His exceptional craftsmanship earned him recognition as one of the company's top furniture repair specialists. Allowing him to travel throughout the United States repairing furniture. All while maintaining a family with three children whom he dearly loved.
In retirement, he followed the love of his life to Florida for the winters. There, he became known for helping neighbors with projects around their homes, riding his bicycle, and enjoying time at the pier watching birds and dolphins. He was always proud when his family would visit, and he could share his slice of paradise. He was devoted to Rena and cared for her until her final breath. After her death, he focused on his home in VT, where he raised his children. He enjoyed the comfort of familiar surroundings, often relaxing in his recliner.
Phil is survived by his son Steven Therrien (his wife, Angela); daughters Connie Therrien, Julie Spurling (her husband, Michael); grandchildren Michaela Therrien, Spencer Therrien, Austin Therrien; his sister Shirley Stevens. He was preceded in death by the love of his life Rowena Fletcher, his first wife Brenda Haynes, the mother of his children Lorraine Placey Therrien, as well as his parents and siblings.
A graveside service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a cause in honor or Phil's life and legacy.
Assisting with arrangements is the Cremation Society of New Hampshire, Hampton. To view Phillipe’s online tribute, send condolences to the family, or for more information, visit www.csnh.com
