Ralph James Hutchins, 70, a lifelong Windsor resident, died Thursday, March 6, at Mount Ascutney Hospital, with family at his side. Mr. Hutchins was born in Hartford, VT on October 14, 1932, son of Harold and Flora (Harlow) Hutchins. He served as a Corporeal in the Army with the Occupation Forces in Germany from 1949 1953, as maintenance engineer at the old Windsor Hospital in the late 1950's and early 1960's, and as a maintenance mechanic for Tambrands, Inc. until his retirement in the early 1990's. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Arlene (Gardner) Hutchins of Windsor; his mother, Flora Hutchins, of Windsor; five sons, Jay of West Lebanon, NH, Steven of Old Fort, NC, Michael of Winchester, NH, Robert of Hartland, VT, and Scott of Gansevoort, NY; a brother, Harold of Anchorage, AK; two sisters, Nina Hall of Mena, AR, and Gail Daughtry of Montgomery, AL; 11 Grandchildren; nieces and nephews. The family gathered at the home of his eldest son for a remembrance on Sunday, March 9 , officiated by Amanda Lape-Freeberg, Pastor for the Old South Church, Windsor, VT. At Mr. Hutchins' request, there will be no formal services. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 11 Loomis Street, Montpelier, Vermont 05602.
