Ralph R. Mabbs, 83, of 22 Ellsworth Pond Road in Ellsworth died peacefully on February 21, 2001 at his home surrounded by family. Mr. Mabbs was born on March 25, 1918 in St. Louis, Missouri the son of the late Ralph and Anna (Renner) Mabbs. A graduate of Northwestern University School of Business, he was an executive with the Illinois Bell Telephone Company (Ameritech) for 35 years. After retirement he became the Executive Director of the Episcopal Charities for the Dioceses of Chicago from 1977 until 1984. He then moved to New Hampshire with his wife in June of 2000 to be with his family. Mr. Mabbs was a parishioner of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Plymouth and St. John of the Mountains Church in Ellsworth. Family members include; his wife of 60 years, Barbara (Birge) Mabbs; two daughters, Mrs. Daniel (Barbara) Robinson of Ellsworth and Linda M. Hunt of Potomac, Maryland; one grandson, Matthew R. Clark of Maryland; one brother, Edward C. Mabbs of Florida and Massachusetts; one sister, Helen M. Brickman of Alabama; and several nieces and nephews. Services will take place later this spring at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Barrington, Illinois.
