Raymond W. Asprey

April 14, 1956 — March 20, 2024

Manchester, NH

Raymond Wilder Asprey, of Manchester, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on the sunny afternoon of March 20th, 2024 at the Elliot Hospital. Aged over 67 wonderful years, his family remembers him fondly.

He spent his career hands-on, working for many years as a contractor, handyman, and finally retiring as a machinist. His love for all things creative is seen through his family, sharing many similar skills and hobbies.

Raymond was raised mainly in Dunbarton and Milford, New Hampshire. He ran around with sheep and rough-housed with his brothers, skied down small hills and secretly fed the stray cats. At 19, he began a new life as a father, sharing his son, Jason, with Leilani (Murphy) Ulcickas. At 44, Ray became a grandfather when his granddaughter, McKenzie, was born. Following the births of his two other grandchildren from Jason and Melinda (Quintal) Asprey, he knew he had found his purpose. Raymond was a devoted grandfather, becoming equal to a parent in his grandkids’ lives. He spent the last 10 years as his mother’s caretaker; spending his hours caring for the birds on their balcony, watching Blue Bloods, and sharing stories. Sunday night dinner was his favorite part of the week, sharing subs or pizza with his grandkids and mother. His favorite activity was going to the movies with all of them in tow, (usually the newest family cartoon) a routine preceded by years of being “forced” to spend hours getting deep into the latest Disney or Cartoon Network shows alongside them. When cartoons weren’t involved, Raymond enjoyed all things NCIS, Star Trek, M.A.S.H., and Westerns.

Family was everything to him, and he will be remembered as the caring son, brother, dad, uncle, and grandpa he was. He is known as an amazing man who will leave a lasting touch on the lives of all who knew him.

He was everyone’s “Grampa”.

Raymond is survived by his mother; Anne Wilder Shornstein of New Hampshire, Brothers; William Asprey (Sue) of Virginia, Scott Asprey (Susan) of Rhode Island, Son; Jason W. Asprey of New Hampshire, Grandchildren; McKenzie, Kheagan, & Rogan Asprey of New Hampshire, Nephew; Martin Asprey of Virginia, Niece; Jessica of Vermont.
