Richard E. Bennett, 90, of Manchester, NH, passed away on September 12, 2021. Born in Manchester on March 8, 1931, he was the son of Percy H. Bennett and Sigrid (Eriksen) Bennett. A graduate of Chandler elementary school and the Phillips Exeter Academy, he attended the University of New Hampshire and Indiana University.

He was an independent public accountant in Manchester for twenty-four years, retiring in 1985. In 1962, he was appointed by Governor Powell and served as a finance commissioner of Manchester. In 1967, he founded Active Corporation, a business management firm, income tax service and real estate agency. He developed Brickside apartment sites in Exeter.

A 32nd degree Scottish Rite Freemason in the Valley of Nashua Consistory, he was a fifty-five year member of Lafayette Lodge #41, and a member of Bektash Temple of the Shriners of North America. He was a member of the Manchester Kiwanis Club for thirty-five years. A constant reader, he was a collector and donor of thousands of books.

He was predeceased by his wife of fifty-two years, Florence (Gagnon) Bennett, of Manchester, and is survived by his daughter, Constance Bennett, two sons, Andrew Charles Bennett, Eric William Bennett and Eric's wife Ann Thompson Bennett, Esquire, all of Manchester.
