Richard “Dick” Peter Bernier, Sr., 91, passed away peacefully Friday, September 19, 2025, at Concord Hospital, Concord, NH.
Born on November 16, 1933, in Methuen, MA, he is the son of the late Willaim Bernier Sr. and Olive Fogg Bernier. Raised and educated in Exeter, Dick was a graduate of St. Michael’s Catholic School and Exeter High School. Dick was Wed to his beloved Nancy on October 23, 1959, in Stratham, NH. Dick was a devoted husband and dearly loved his wife of 65 years.
An honorably discharged veteran, Dick proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and United States Marine Corps.
Following his military service, Dick was employed for 27 years at JD Cahill Manufacturing, Hampton until retirement. During retirement, he worked part time for the Exeter, NH School System, as a Crossing Guard, a job he loved so much. Dick was a very popular Crossing Guard for many years, beloved by the teachers, students and their parents.
A dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Dick’s family was paramount in his life. For Dick, being a proud husband, father, and soldier were the greatest accomplishments of his life. An avid hunter, who always got his deer every season for years, caught his first moose at age 80 with his beloved nephew, Tom. A lifelong outdoorsman, Dick especially loved fishing. He loved taking his daughter, Denise, fishing and sharing his “spots” all over New Hampshire. He was always so proud of all his catches. Dick will be best remembered for his love of family and patriotism.
In addition to his parents, Dick was predeceased by his two brothers, William Bernier Jr. of Newmarket, NH and Thomas Bernier of Newmarket, NH. Dick is survived by his wife Nancy J. Ross Bernier; two daughters, Diana L. Bernier and Denise M. Raymond; son, Richard P. Bernier, Jr. & his wife Robin L. Bernier; granddaughter, Erica J. Raymond and her fiancé Thomas Bouchard; great grandchildren, Wyatt Thomas Bouchard & Ruby Marie Bouchard; two sisters, Barbara St. Amour and Rosemary Day, and many many nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: A Committal Service with Military Honors will be held at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy Boscawen on Friday, October 3 at 3:00PM. A Celebration of Life will take place Sunday October 5, 2025, at the Epping American Legion from 1:00 pm to 5:00 PM
