Richard Wilson Burt

With quiet dignity and the steady courage that marked his life, Richard W. Burt cast off his final journey on this earth on March 29, 2025, after nearly three years of living with Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was surrounded by the family that loved him deeply and miss him more than words can express.

Richard was born on September 4, 1957, in Salem, Massachusetts, and was raised in Amherst, Ohio. He graduated from Marion L. Steele High School in 1976. A gifted engineer with an endlessly curious mind, he spent decades traveling the world as a PLC programmer and electrical design engineer. He had a knack for fixing things-mechanical,electrical, and otherwise-and never asked for recognition. He just got to work.

In 1995, he made his home in New Hampshire, where he built a life rooted in quiet devotion-to his work, his family, and his principles. Richard was a man of faith- never loud about it, but certain and steady. He was a loyal husband, a steady father, and a grandfather who found joy in simply showing up- skiing with the kids, captaining his sailboat on Lake Winnipesaukee, or teeing off with a few clubs and no expectations.

He is survived by his wife, Bebe Burt; his children Sarah Burt, Brian Burt, and Jeff Burt and wife Thuan; his stepchildren Brett Williams, Jessica Williams and David Finethy and wife Martyna; and his grandchildren Fallon and Keller Peacock, Dagni Williams, and Maks Finethy.

He also leaves his brother, David Burt and wife Tami; his sisters Debbie Varble and husband Ked, and Lisa Cebull and husband Tom; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Lois Burt.

Richard’s love didn’t come with big declarations- it was in the way he showed up, worked hard, and quietly stayed the course. Though his ship has now sailed to heaven, we will carry his memory like the steady line of a compass-true, guiding, and deeply missed.

A memorial service to celebrate Richard’s life will be held on Monday, July 21, 2025, at 11AM at Mirror Lake Community Church, RR 109, Mirror Lake, New Hampshire.
